Mariama is a passionate advocate for children with disabilities. Mariama has mentored children in Ghana and empowered them in their development through music and art. Mariama has also raised awareness of youth about the impact of drug and substance abuse on mental health by working with the Seed Foundation in Zimbabwe.

Mariama is a third year Psychology student at the University of British Columbia, Canada, with substantial experience in research and data analysis with a specific focus on mental health. Being a recipient of a prestigious Outstanding International Student Award, Mariama has focused the bulk of her academic research on the impact of stereotype threat in various academic and social settings. Mariama is fluent in English and Shona, and has an intermediate French knowledge.
